Geonwoo Lee is a South Korean artist based in Seoul, Korea. He started his career as a technician at an Art Furniture studio and won two awards upon which he decided to become an independent artist.
He debuted with his sculpture work (KIWA Series) at Gyeongin Museum of Fine Art in Seoul in 2018 and is now expanding his artistic practice to include sculptures, paintings, generative art, and media art. From 2021, beginning with Saatchi Gallery in London, his works, most notably the Baram Series, has been presented in many galleries globally including cities like Paris, Madrid, and New York and at renowned hotels such as Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Andaz, Walkerhill, Wyndham Grand and more. He was also featured in <2022 Art Anthology V: Madrid Edition> archived in National Library of Spain, as a Korean contemporary artist and been introduced in many media such as TV news, ads, drama, and more.
Geonwoo Lee explores our lives through his works and his artistic expressions are largely inspired by nature. His works are characterized by transforming natural forms into artificial forms and depicting artificial forms in irregular repetition. Such depiction represents many contrasts in our lives. He recreates our lives into many contrasts such as natural and artificial forms, completion and incompletion, and regularities and irregularities, and moreover wishes to deliver hopeful and positive notes to his viewers.
